The goal of the OUUC religious education program is to provide a safe, welcoming, loving environment that through lifespan education, grounded in the UU principles, encourages spiritual and intellectual growth and empowers our students to live our common ideals and develop their individual faith. Religious Education Curriculum and Programming 2009-2010 Nursery Age-appropriate activities and basic care is provided for infants and toddlers while parents attend the service. Parents have the option of using childcare for the entire service or bringing their children to church with the older children. Parents are also welcome to stay in the nursery and listen to the church service via radio. Preschool (ages 3-5): We are Many, We are One Our preschoolers will learn basic tenets of Unitarian Universalism while affirming their own uniqueness. Themes of interdependency, community, and multiculturalism will be explored in a fun, hands-on setting. Primary and Upper Elementary (K-6): Spirit Play A Montessori-based program allowing our students to explore existential questions of faith at their own pace, using stories and hands-on activities. This proven educational method encourages independent thinking, creates a faith community, and develops an underlying sense of the spiritual and the mystery of life. Jr./Sr. High (grades 7-12): Sufism and Performance Our youth will be studying and performing the play, “The Conference of the Birds”, based on an ancient Sufi poem by Farid ud-Din Attar. Focus of the class will be on multiculturalism and the personal quest for Truth/Higher Power. One Room Religious Education (all ages): On the second Sunday of the month, all ages will meet in a one-room school setting to engage in a social action project, worship preparation, or other group activity.
