Job Description
This is expected job description for the Olmsted UU Congregation's DRE. The final job description will be negotiated with the newly hired DRE to best make use of his/her skills, passions, and interests.
Title:
Director of Religious Education
Hours:
Third-time (average 13.5 hours per week including Sunday mornings). This is a ten month position running from mid August through mid June.
Role: To
provide professional leadership for the lifespan
religious education program, with particular
responsibility for the programs for children and youth (nursery through
high school)
Statement of Accountability: The Director of Religious Education is responsible to
the Board of Trustees, is supervised by the minister, and works in coordination
with the Lifespan Faith Development Council.
Responsibilities:
With the support of the
Lifespan Faith Development Council
- Provide leadership for goal setting and
development of congregational philosophy of lifespan
religious growth and learning
- Advocate for and publicize the religious
education program through the newsletter and other means of communication
- Oversee the religious education program for children and youth on Sunday mornings
- Coordinate curriculum and
classroom materials for religious education for children and youth
- Orient, train, guide, and support teachers,
advisors, and other volunteers in the religious education program for children and youth
- Hire, train, and supervise competent, caring, and safe nursery staff
- Maintain resources, supplies and equipment
- Keep religious education budget, files,
registration, and attendance records current
- Attend district and area religious education
conferences and workshops as possible
- Attend meetings of the Lifespan Faith Development Council
- Submit monthly written reports to the Board of
Trustees and attend monthly meetings as possible and/or requested
- Work in coordination with the chairs of the
subcommittees of the Lifespan Faith Development Council, attending
meetings of subcommittees as possible and/or appropriate
- Participate in planning and leading
multigenerational worship as possible
- Greet and meet visiting parents and children on
Sunday mornings
- Continue professional development
Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Lived experience in Unitarian Universalist
congregational life
- Experience or degree in a field related to
education, human service, religion, etc.
- Relational, organizational, administrative,
communication, and volunteer management skills
- Comfort with a wide variety of religious views
- Initiative and ability to encourage others
- Willing to submit to a criminal background check
and agree to follow the UUA Code of Ethics, the OUUC Congregational Safety
Policy and OUUC Child & Youth Safety Policy & Protocol
This job
description can be reviewed and updated as part of the annual review process or
can be reviewed and updated as needed with the DRE’s supervisor, the minister,
with input from the Lifespan Faith Development Council and approval by the
Board and Lifespan Faith Development Council.
